Buying a Domain Name?

From time to time I get requests from people to consult for and buy a domain name for their online presence. This is an important step for a company as it will align their business identity with marketing and will follow them for many years to come.

Occasionally I have to "fix" someones domain. This usually is the case where someone bought a domain on a whim with no consultation, and picked the cheapest domain registrar online they could find. $16.00 a year for domain registration, etc... Soon they find out that the interface is at best useless in managing their domain, or worse they lose their password and cannot seem to get ahold of anyone to get it changed.

So, here is where IEPCHELP comes in. For those that come to us BEFORE buying that domain, we can help produce a domain name that is a) available b) easy to enter and c) catchy and d) grabs the correct range of domain names to encompass you company. For those that made the mistake of buying before consultation at cheap registrars, we can help repair the situation buy working with those cheapo registrars to get back your domain name and move it to one we recommend.

I am dancing around the registrar of choice right now, because its the key to this post.

Network Solutions

Why Dance? Well IF you bought your domain (that is broken) from a cheapo registrar, you will be alittle sticker-shocked at their prices. The price makes a big difference when it comes to accessing, maintaining and recovering information for your domain AFTER the purchase. Sure, its $36 a year, in some cases a whopping $26.00 more than other companies.

I am here to tell you - PAY MORE! We don't make a dime with Network Solutions. There is a reason though, and since we are ALL ABOUT SAVING YOU MONEY - Here is the logic:

Client a comes to us with:

"I bought xyz.com from cheaporegistrar.com a year ago, and now someone else has taken over the domain- the registrar has no phone numbers for me to call or doesnt answer my pleas!"

or

"I lost my password and their password recovery tool doesnt seem to work"

or

"Our domain expired and we didnt even know"

All the above would be either remedied with minutes or just plain non-existent with Network Solutions.

This article highlights a recent issue with a client, one I post

Point is, you get what you pay for. That $16.00 a year domain purchase can't pay for enough staff, hardware, network bandwidth and phones to be able to support all the people that purchase at those prices, which is, sadly ALOT. Someone is taking the money and running, doing the bare minimum to maintain that business. It's clear accounting folks, who the hell can maintain all that for $16 per domain?! or worse I have seen recently $1.99 domains! Incredible! And quite inneffective.

In every situation we can help either recover your domain, or point you in the right path. Its your business so treat it with the respect it deserves! Pay for the right domain registrar, DNS hosting and Web hosting company. If it seems too cheap to be real, its likely gonna make you pay more in the end.
